Sometimes we just want to look back in awe at all that we have done, at how far we have come, and to pay tribute to those who have paved the way and inspired progress. Tone Cluster wants to take you with us on this journey of hard-fought acceptance and celebration.
We are thrilled to present the Canadian premiere of an eight movement piece commemorating the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, “Quiet No More.” Commissioned by North American queer choirs, brought forth by a set of talented composers, and directed by our own Kurt Ala-Kantti, the emotion in the music is laid bare. Highlighting the stories of queer revolution, live musicians, recorded atmospherics and the talents of TotoToo Theatre all combine to create a truly immersive trip through the passions of history; not to mention the exceptional choral sound of Tone Cluster—quite a queer choir.
To complement the title work, Tone Cluster will sing other musical pieces to defiantly, joyfully claim space, performed in our characteristic style: standing strong and proud, sometimes tongue in cheek and always heart on sleeve.
You may also wish to have your heart lifted with the work of local artists. Studio 507 provides a fully equipped space for those who wish to make art but can’t afford paint, brushes, and canvasses. Bringing art into the community is just the type of program that Tone Cluster is pleased to support. Artist’s work will be on display and for sale starting at 6:00 pm and continuing at the reception after the concert.
Our hope is that the uplifting spirit of art and music follows you home and brightens your November.
