A word from TC’s past president

With it’s 20th Anniversary in 2013/14, Tone Cluster entered its twenties as a well-rounded, socially-engaged, and musically-accomplished choir, brimming with vitality and creative energy. It’s a great stage of life for us!

In honour of our big anniversary, the choir filled the year with exciting events such as co-hosting the Canadian national Unison festival, commissioning a new piece of music, Come Sit With Me, by Canadian composer Mark Sirett with words by local poet Lynn Andrews, and commemorating 20 years of music-making with favourite songs and guests from our colourful history.

1peace resizedAt our first featured concert in November called Peace, we joined partner choirs Harmonia and Cross Town Youth Chorus to celebrate peace.

2fab20 resizedAfter commemorating World AIDS Day, and our traditional carol singing in the Byward Market in December, we held our 20th anniversary concert Fabulous Twenty in February which featured alumni musicians and favourite pieces from our 20-year journey. We also took a moment at this concert to honour a few of our longtime choir members who have contributed through the years in various ways to the success of Tone Cluster: Liz Benjamin, Fiona Bladon, Rob Bowman, Sue Farley, and Gianluca Ragazzini.

3words2 resizedOn April 26, 2014, in our second “Words” concert, Tone Cluster partnered with youth from École secondaire publique De La Salle and Arnprior District High School to deliver a powerful message of support and inclusiveness.

To top it off, we joined our sisters and brothers from across Canada for the Unison Festival Unisson LGBT Choral Festival from May 16-19, 2014.

The much-loved “Show Tune Showdown“, where three musical theatre teams compete for points awarded by our three celebrity judges was  part of the festival this year and was met with rave reviews.

Tone Cluster can always make room for more people with musical talents; we would love to have you audition to join us for this coming season… and beyond.

In 2014/15 we will be releasing a new CD and continuing our tradition of performing three exciting concerts throughout the season and singing at various community events.

Our success depends on your support, and the best way to do that is to come to our concerts! In addition you can also join us at local community events, make a highly-appreciated tax-deductible donation, and/or purchase Tone Cluster merchandise.

On behalf of the choir, we hope to see you at our concerts and to chat at our post-concert receptions!

Andrew Sacret
2013-14 President
